While we are all familiar with the many health benefits of the raw, unprocessed honey, recently scientists have discovered that there is a type of honey which can kill every kind of bacteria, even the worst ones.
The European Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases published the results of the study which indicated that could be of utmost importance at a time when a lot of the antibiotics are resistant to bacteria, particularly against “superbugs”.
The honey that we are talking about is manuka honey, also called jelly bush honey, produced in New Zealand. The producers of manuka demanded trademark protection, just like the French champagne or Scottish whiskey. So, it is not surprising why the health benefits of manuka honey were not so familiar all this time.
Manuka Honey Kills Mrsa, Other Superbugs
Manuka honey is created by bees foraging on the nectar of Leptospermum Scoparium, the New Zealand manuka bush, as well as tea trees native only to Australia and New Zealand.
According to a report by The Australian, manuka honey killed every bacteria or pathogen it was tested on in the studies mentioned above. It can be either taken internally or applied topically to help fight infections on the skin, insect bites, and cuts.
The best part regarding manuka honey is that none of the superbugs it killed were able to build up immunity, which is a common problem with most of today`s antibiotics.“New antibiotics tend to have short shelf lives, as the bacteria they attack quickly become resistant,” said Dr. Dee Carter of the University of Sydney’s School of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences.
“Many large pharmaceutical companies have abandoned antibiotic production because of the difficulty of recovering costs. Developing effective alternatives could, therefore, save many lives.”
Dr. Certer stated that what makes manuka honey effective at destroying the bacteria is a compound called methylglyoxal, which combines other unknown compounds to cause “multi-system failure.”
Where to Find Manuka Honey
Almost every health store has manuka honey, the only problem is that there is also fake honey on the market, so you should be very careful when purchasing it. It should be UMF certified which means Unique Manuca Factor, a phytochemical property obtained from the manuka bushes.
Comvita manuka honey which is UMF certified can be found on Amazon. It is considered that can help to eliminate MRSA:
On Amazon, JoshuaOne9 explains that she had done a lot of research when her friend got MRSA. But, unfortunately, after some time, she got it too. The first time when she saw the red bump, she scratched it, but then she realized it is not a mosquito bite, but something else. Her husband immediately realized what was it, and applied Manuka honey on the affected area, and covered with a bandage. After a few hours, she felt significant relief, and within a couple of days, it was completely gone…
When it comes to one of the most common health problems faced by the people, we can certainly say that manuka honey provides a lot of benefits, even though further research need to be done.
