Summer means having a great time, sandy beaches, long walks, sunny and longer days, but also lots of mosquitoes. Anyway, mosquito repellent has been on the market since 1956, but if you don’t like its smell and you are afraid of the negative effects of DEET in sprays, then there is another solution. Start taking vitamin B1.
Vitamin B1 which also is known as thiamine, is an essential vitamin that human body needs. This vitamin is contained in foods such as yeast, oatmeal, brown rice, asparagus, kale, liver and eggs and is important in the fight against stress and boosting immunity.
This vitamin belongs to the group of water-soluble vitamins, so if you take greater amount, the excess that your body doesn’t need will be flushed out when you urinate. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about taking too much.
The thing that helps you with mosquitoes is that this vitamin changes the way you smell to them. Having enough Vitamin B1 in the system makes you smell “yeasty” to mosquitoes, which makes them uninterested to bite.
Most importantly, it does not change the way you smell to other people.
This has not been proved yet, but taking it every day has no negative effects, so feel free to give it a try.
Certain conditions can lower thiamine in the body such as chronic alcoholism, Crohn’s disease, anorexia and gastric bypass, so individuals with these conditions may benefit health-wise from taking an extra supplement.
Interested in giving it a shot? Take 100 mg of thiamin every day. Within two weeks, you should start noticing a decrease in the amount of times you’re uncomfortably smacking these pests away from your body.
