Many people have heard of Hajmlic grip and know how they can help the person to whom it has stopped a piece of food or an object in the respiratory system. But what to do if you are that person and no one is nearby?
In that case, Hajmlic technique is difficult and is usually done improperly. So Jeff Rehman – paramedic and firefighter with 22 years of experience, invented an alternative to Hajmlic grip with the help of his colleagues.
Here’s how to save yourself from choking:
1. Kneel on the floor in position for push-ups.
2. Take your hands and fall with the torso on the floor. The blow will release a large amount of air from your chest and so will remove the piece of food or object that interfere to your breathing.
3. If you can’t succeed at first, try again. Do not be afraid of falling because it’s just a few unpleasant seconds despite the fact that you can rescue your own life.
