Having youthful, glowing skin is something every women wants. However, the day-to-day stresses of life can make it hard, and the skin is often neglected. In the teen years and early twenties, this doesn&39t seem like an issue, but as women get older, the effects begin to show with aging of the skin. For women of any age who want to take care of their skin to reduce aging, there are five tips to heed.
1. Protect Skin From the Sun
Sun exposure is one of the primary causes of premature aging of the skin, resulting in unsightly wrinkles and dark spots. The best thing a woman can do for her skin is protect it from excessive sun exposure. One way to do this is by wearing a sunscreen with adequate SPF when going into the sun, even for a short period of time. In addition, wearing hats and protective clothing will help as well.
2. Get Enough Rest
Sleep deprived skin lacks luster and will show age. Sleep is required to produce important hormones in your body. These hormones then produce collagen, the protein that gives skin elasticity. Getting the recommended eight hours of sleep each night is necessary to keep the production of collagen going, which is something you need if you want youthful-looking skin and a beautiful complexion.
3. Drink Plenty of Water
The body, including the skin, is made mostly of water. Anytime the body is even slightly dehydrated, it will show first in the skin, with a dry, leathery appearance. This will accent wrinkles and premature aging, making skin look old. One of the best ways to help your skin look fresh is to drink 8 to 12 glasses of clean water each day.
4. Cleanse the Skin Properly
Dead skin cells and bacteria on the face is inevitable. The build up of these compounds causes skin to look dull and can result in blemishes. Proper cleansing of the skin each day with a mild facial cleanser will help control this effect. However, washing too much or using harsh cleansers can cause more harm than good. This practice will strip the skin of it&39s natural, essential oils, leaving skin dry, flaky and lacking vitality.
5. Eat Well
As the mantra goes, “you are what you eat.” The skin is the biggest organ of the body. To keep it youthful, feed it nourishment. A balanced diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables along with healthy oils like fish is one way to fight aging from within. If your body is healthy, it will show through your skin.
